During her remote appearance on The Tonight Show on Monday night, Kate Hudson reminisced with Jimmy Fallon about Almost Famous, the movie they starred in together 20 years ago. During the discussion, the pair talked about their time on the set and the relationships that came out of the movie, and Hudson also revealed that their lives could have turned out very differently if Fallon would have taken the opportunity to ask her out.
“What a special experience for everybody that was,” said Hudson, who starred alongside Fallon, Billy Crudup, Patrick Fugit, Zooey Deschanel, and Anna Paquin in Cameron Crowe’s semi-autobiographical film. “And then there were like relationships that came out of it — oh, which by the way, we need to discuss.”
Fallon said that some of the best laughs he has ever had in his lifetime came from being a part of that movie before Hudson noted that she and Fallon “ended up hanging out all of the time.”
Then, Hudson brought up the video clip from a previous Tonight Show episode that featured Fallon playing a game with Margot Robbie where he named Hudson as the former co-star that he could have dated but didn’t.
Hudson said that about 100 people sent her the clip, and she had “no idea.” The mom-of-three added that she wished people could be in her body to watch her friendship with Fallon from her perspective because Fallon gave her “no indication.”
“I felt a little indication,” Fallon explained. “I thought we were good together. We were good buddies. We hung out all the time.”
It was at this point in the discussion that Hudson dropped a bomb, saying: “Jimmy, if you would have actually made a move I would have totally gone there.” Fallon argued that she wouldn’t have, but Hudson said, “Yes of course!”
“I remember thinking to myself like, ‘Why has Jimmy never made a move?’ And then I just kind of realized, ‘Oh, he’s not into me like that.’ I was just like ‘Okay, well whatever.’ And so, then I met Chris [Robinson],” said Hudson, referencing her first husband with whom she shares a 16-year-old son named Ryder.

Fallon insisted that Hudson wasn’t telling the truth, but Hudson declared that it absolutely was. She said that at the time she was a single girl in New York, and if Fallon would have asked her out their life trajectory could have been completely different.
After having some laughs over what could have been, Jimmy Fallon said that things turned out perfectly and Hudson agreed that everything was exactly the way it was supposed to be. Fallon is married to producer Nancy Juvonen and they share two daughters: Winnie, 6, and Franny, 5.
Kate Hudson and Robinson split in 2004 and she later welcomed a son named Bing with Muse frontman Matt Bellamy. Currently, Hudson is in a relationship with musician Danny Fujikawa and they share a daughter named Rani Rose.
